Gas prices are up this week -- and experts say it’s because of cuts in oil production.
According to AAA, Michigan's current statewide average is about $2.31 per gallon. That's up 7 cents from last week and about 80 cents more than this time last year. That 7-cent increase is the second largest weekly change in the country.
Right now, Michigan has the 18th-highest prices in the U.S.
In metro Detroit, the average is about $2.26 per gallon. That's about 3 cents more than last week and 77 cents more than just one year ago.
Analysts say price hikes are due to cuts in global oil production. But oil production is up in the U.S. and demand is falling, which has caused prices to level out in the past few weeks.
