Over the next few days, most political watchers will have their sights set on Michigan’s historic Mackinac Island.  And for good reason! Six well known presidential candidates are attending the state Republican Leadership Conference.   Michigan counts!

Last week, President Barack Obama spoke in Warren.  This week, Vice President Joe Biden made another stop in Detroit.  Michigan counts!

The 2016 race to the White House is a political marathon.  There are important reasons why Republican, Democratic and Independent candidates should visit this state often over the next several months.  The U.S. auto industry, our bread and butter, is healthy and booming in sales!  We’re one of America’s leading agricultural states.   And from Mackinac to Grand Rapids, the revitalization of Detroit is on everyone’s mind and agenda.

It should not be assumed that Michigan will automatically vote blue next year.  All of our top elected state officeholders are Republican.  And, history will show that Michigan’s longest serving governor was a member of the GOP.

We’re hoping this campaign will be a hard fought contest for the policies that will serve the Great Lakes State best.  Those ideas can come from any political party.  So remember, every chance you get, remind the presidential hopefuls that Michigan counts!
