Filling 100 vacant officer positions in the jails is a priority for Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon. So, his team has put together a day-long hiring event to seek out qualified candidates.
And get this -- the $50 agility test fee is being waived for the whole day for any men and women interested in taking the physical exam.

The Physical Abilities Test must be completed within 5-minutes-35 seconds.
The tasks include:
- Carrying a 40-pound weight a distance of 100 feet
- Climbing up and down a four-step staircase 15 times
- Running about 330 feet around six cones
- Dragging a 165-pound dummy 45 feet
To apply, you must be at least 18 with a valid driver's license.
You also bring a signed note from your doctor approving your participation in the test.

If you pass the physical test, you'll have the option that day of taking required written tests and submitting a jail application. This would speed up the hiring process.
Other requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Qualified to obtain a concealed pistol license
- No felony convictions
The jail officers are paid a salary of $29,698 on a bi-weekly pay period. Pay increases are offered as you build experience.
