12-year-old charged after Melvindale schools closed 3 days due to threats

MELVINDALE, Mich. (WXYZ) — A 12-year-old has been charged after the Melvindale-Northern Allen Park School District was closed for three days due to threats.

The juvenile, who was charged Thursday, allegedly made threats to Strong Middle School through a cell phone app.

When Melvindale police were notified of the social media threat, they were able to identify the juvenile through their investigation.

The 12-year-old boy has been charged with threat to commit and act of violence against the school, employees or students, and malicious use of a telecommunication device. The charges are misdemeanors in the adult system. According to a release, the suspect will be sentenced as a juvenile.

The juvenile suspect received a $7,500 personal bond.
