Mixed messages surround the investigation into the Flint Water Crisis. The case is now under scrutiny by some citizens who fear justice won't prevail over politics. Particularly, when it comes to holding the Governor accountable.

Attorney General Bill Schuette telling 7 Action News Investigator Jim Kiertzner this week, "We have completed the criminal phase of the investigation. Always have the responsibility to pursue other leads as we go into the trial phase."

When questioned further, the AG went on to say, "This phase of the criminal investigation. But, we have an ongoing responsibility Jim, to make sure as we will, as we will, that our attorneys and investigators continue to pursue the truth."

All that, despite sources telling us more charges could still come. Just this week, also came new charges against some which included the count of involuntary manslaughter. In the meantime, people of Flint say they are troubled at the possibility the Governor won't be charged. Especially, considering both he and the AG are both republicans and Schuette may run for Governor himself in the next election.

Flint's Mayor Karen Weaver also telling 7 Action News she has concerns about the role of politics in this investigation and hopes it won't interfere in the case.

So far, it's unknown if, and when the AG may announce a run for Governor.

The Attorney General's office released the following statement about a possible run:

The claim that the Attorney General has plans to announce a run for Governor July 4th weekend is false and completely invented. Also, there are no mixed messages. He said the first phase of the investigation is moving to the prosecution phase, and that the criminal investigation remains open.
