(WXYZ) — Meijer announced Wednesday it will install Plexiglas shields at all of its checkout lanes amid the coronvirus outbreak.

Beginning next week, the sneeze guards will be an added protection for team members and customers, and is one of several steps it has taken to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

The company has also suspended the use of reusable bags and stopped accepting bottle returns. There are also marked "Xs" on the floor 6-feet apart in areas where customers may congregate.

“Meijer is a company that is guided by our fundamental values to do what is right for our team members and customers,” Keyes said. “Our No. 1 priority is to provide a safe environment for everyone who walks through our doors while meeting the needs of the communities we serve.”
