PORT HURON, Mich. (WXYZ) — In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Port Huron Recreation Department is opening Lakeside and Lighthouse beach in phases.
This weekend, families can enjoy the beaches by following social distancing rules and keeping 6 feet between themselves and others outside of their group.
Amenities such as grills, picnic tables, benches, splash pads, pavilions, playground equipment, and restrooms will remain closed to minimize common touch points in the area.
Porta potties will be available on site.
“We strive to provide a safe environment to our residents so we can continue to keep the parks and beaches open,” said Nancy Winzer, director of Port Huron Parks and Recreation. “We are hoping to have amenities available again as soon as the spread of COVID-19 is no longer an issue,” Nancy said.
Lakeside beach is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Lighthouse beach is open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
City of Port Huron residents as well as Fort Gratiot and Port Huron Township residents can park at both beaches free of charge. Remaining St. Clair County residents, on the other hand, can purchase day parking passes for $5 at both parking booths.
Non-county residents can purchase day passes for $10 at Lighthouse beach and $20 at Lakeside beach.
