DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police were on site of a drifting event Sunday to make sure things didn't get out of hand.

The drivers took to a parking lot on W. Warren Ave. near I-96 for the stunts.

Detroit police say they were made aware of the event by the organizer, and since the donuts were done on private property, it is not illegal.

"We have different people directing traffic, making sure people are not in the pits and make sure no one gets hit. We also have the police here and they are approving of everything we're doing. If they see anything they don't like, we'll fix it," Roger Boyd, the event organizer, said.

The organizer said he hopes the location will become a regular safe space for drifters.
