DETROIT (WXYZ) — A local running club has given away more than $10,000 dollars worth of running shoes. The group says that's thanks to a partnership with a Mid-Michigan running shop.

The group, WeRun313, prides itself as being a social running club, connecting like-minded people. One of their most recent runs turned out to be unlike any other.

They meet twice a week ready to run.

"It's not a race. Just finish what you start."

But before any runner pounds the pavement, the co-founders of WeRun313 say the first step is to have a proper pair of running shoes.

“We see a lot of people running in incorrect running shoes that could possibly lead to injury and different things like that," said co-founder Joe Robinson. "Or people who just might not be as fortunate to buy running shoes. They could be expensive for a decent pair.”

“And we wanted to be able to provide that for the community so shout out to Playmakers for partnering with us, providing over 150 pair for free to the community," said co-founder Lance Woods. "I mean that’s over $10,000 worth of shoes.”

WeRun313 held a shoe giveaway this week.

The recipient of more than $10,000 worth of new and gently used brooks from Playmakers running store just outside of Lansing, helping runners reach their fitness goals and live their best life.

"A good actual stress reliever for us and with working from home, going to school from home. It's just kind of a release," said runners Mallorie and Aiden Stiger.

The group and its attendees gather every Tuesday for a two mile run. They meet at Yum Village on 6500 Woodward at 6 p.m.
