ECORSE, Mich. (WXYZ) — An Ecorse couple has been charged with child abuse in connection with two 1-year-old twins that were found severely beaten.

'Justice means charging the monster that did these crimes,' says family of abused twins

James Edward Gibson has been charged with the physical abuse of Zion Michael Reed while living with Lisa Marie Reed, 34, and her twin sons, Zyaire and Zion.

Zyaire was pronounced deceased on July 28, 2020 after officers were dispatched to the home in response to a child abuse call. Police described it as one of the most horrific cases of child abuse they have seen.

Prosecutors say Zion is continuing to receive treatment for his injuries.

There is an ongoing homicide investigation into Zyaire's death.

Gibson and Reed have been charged with Child Abuse First Degree.

“There is simply not much that prepares you for the allegations in this case for 13-month-old twin Zion Reed. It is important to note that the investigation into the homicide of Zaire Reed is not completed, and we are waiting to receive and review other work that we have requested in this case,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said.

A petition filed in probate court describes the boys’ injuries from rib fractures and a broken leg, to liver contusions and skull fractures.
