Rami Ali Jaber was found guilty of second-degree murder and felony firearm by a jury on Sept. 26, 2019. He will be sentenced Dec. 5.

He was originally charged with first-degree murder but was found guilty of a lesser charge.

The shooting happened Sunday, May 13 at the Citgo gas station on West McNichols.

Police say 34-year-old Roberts approached the counter to make a purchase when an argument broke out between he and Jaber.

Jaber then fired shots at Roberts' chest. Roberts was unarmed.

The victim later died at a local hospital and Jaber was arrested.

William Lawrence, assistant prosecutor on the case, told the judge during a hearing in 2018 that the surveillance video footage was damning.

“This is a rare case, Your Honor, where not only do you have video of the entire incident, you also have audio of the entire incident," Lawrence said. "And it clearly paints the picture of first-degree murder as the defendant is charged with.”
