One Troy family is about to take Halloween 2020 trick-or-treating to a new level with their roller ball candy chute. It's a creation that looks like it was built by Wayne Szalinski himself.

The chute, which comes out of the family's second story window and wraps around a tree in their front yard, is built from 50 feet of tubing. The idea, the family says, is to load up capsule balls with candy and LED lights and send them down the chute for kids who still want to partake in the trick-or-treating festivities on Halloween.

"It was my husband’s idea," says Teresa Matsumoto. "He said he wanted to do something fun for the kids, because they’ve been going through so much. He just came up with it, his engineering brain."

Teresa says her husband Dai studied to be an aerospacial engineer and loves to be creative.

"He's that fun parent," she joked.

Dai said he was talking to his 15-year-old son about ways to create a fun and safe way for the kids in the neighborhood to trick or treat when the idea really came to life.

"I suggested a pipe that would drop the candy down, and he came up with this," joked Dai's son, Kyan.

The family says they are still in the decorating phase and plan to hang up some spider webs on the chute to make it more festive. They also mentioned they will have a table set up with sanitizer and wipes so people can wipe off the capsule candy balls before placing them in their treat bags and heading on their way.

As far as neighborhood reaction to the fun contraption, Teresa says she's noticed some curious stares.

"Once they saw it working, they were like, 'Oh my God, that is so cool'."
