HARRISON TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN (WXYZ) — When one man heard the Macomb County Prosecutor praise country rock star Uncle Kracker for his actions at a popular waterfront bar in Harrison Township on Labor Day, he felt outrage. He says he is being denied justice.

The incident happened at Bumper’s Landing on Labor Day. You can see a man wearing a shirt that says security in surveillance video released this week. That is Deano Williams. He says he was asked to escort someone who had too much to drink from the building. A man at the bar with Matthew Shafer, whose stage name is Uncle Kracker, started trying to stop him. Then Williams says the country rock star came in yelling and swearing.

“He grabbed me, and there was a brief little tussle,” said Williams.

He says he was about to move on with his life. Then TMZ reached out to Bumpers Landing and his boss asked him to make up a story to make Uncle Kracker look good.

“He physically assaulted me on the job, doing the job,” said Williams.

So he and another worker filed reports with the Sheriff’s Office. Williams says after they filed reports, he was let go. The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office investigated and turned it over to the prosecutor’s office. Prosecutor Eric Smith’s Office said he had no comment today, but he spoke out earlier this week saying he didn’t charge Matthew Shafer, because he felt he was a hero.

“It is a happy ending to a story that could have turned out tragic,” said Smith. “If he was here I would shake his hand for stopping it before it ever started.”

“We are the victims here. The prosecutor didn’t call us and say what happened. No one talked to us,” said Williams. “You cannot assault anyone on the job anywhere in America and it be okay.”
