All to often, television news is criticized for being nothing more than a flashy and quick headline service. Professional broadcasters, TV critics and viewers will most likely respectfully debate this kind of accusation for years to come. But one recent journalistic entry defies this kind of charge.
All week long, Action News reporter Aaron Baskerville has been exploring the high costs of Detroit gun violence. The buzz around town is about his 27-minute digital documentary, Beyond the Bullet, produced exclusively for WXYZ.com. In an interview for this Sunday's Spotlight on the News program, Aaron told me what a luxury it was to have as much time as he wanted to tell some highly emotional stories about the senseless shootings in Michigan's largest city.
You can see my entire conversation with Aaron on Spotlight tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock on Channel 7. It's well worth your time because gun violence is costing all of us a fortune!
