When his second term as Governor is done, what will be Michigan Governor Rick Snyder's legacy?
Will he be judged as the tough nerdy businessman who fixed Detroit's $18 billion bankruptcy or the out of touch public servant whose lack of leadership caused the Flint water crisis? That's a question historians will have to eventually sort out. In the meantime, journalists who have covered him and his administration are still asking the tough questions and writing news stories and books that that will help political scholars judge Snyder's overall impact on the Great Lakes State.
Nathan Bomey, a former Detroit Free Press reporter, now working for USA Today, has written his new book, Detroit Resurrected, about the Motor City's recent financial problems. Channel 7 reporter Jim Kiertzner also covered the city's big bankruptcy story and often found himself in friendly competition with Bomey. This Sunday, May 1, both journalists will be on Spotlight on the News with me to give their keen insight on Snyder and how he has handled some of the more controversial issues he has had to deal with since being worn in as Michigan Governor. You can see the entire interview at 10:00 AM on WXYZ-TV 7.
