Justice Kelly pushing to "raise the age" in MI.

Does Michigan lag behind most of other states in its treatment of youth in our criminal justice system? Late last year, a bi-partisan bill was introduced in the legislature that would raise the age teenagers are prosecuted as adults from 17 to 18.

Proponents are hoping the legislation gets to Michigan Governor Rick Snyder's desk this year for his signature.  And former Michigan Supreme Court Justice Mary Beth Kelly told me in this week's Spotlight on the News program that the issue should be one of the topics Snyder talks about in his annual State of the State address on January 19th.  But where political conservatives and strong law and order advocates line-up on this judicial question may determine the bill's outcome in 2016.

You can see my entire conversation with Justice Kelly, who is now back in private practice, on Sunday, January 10 at 10 o'clock on TV-7's Spotlight on the News.
