ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) — A 43-year-old man was arrested in connection with over 20 smashed out windows in Royal Oak.

Police say the man has an address in Detroit but stays with people he knows in the Royal Oak area.

He was allegedly using a hammer to break about 20 windows in the common areas of the Village Club Apartments.

He also busted out the glass back door at Blaze Pizza in downtown Royal Oak.

It all happened around 9 p.m. on Christmas Day.

The man was arrested after witnesses were able to give police a good clothing description.

A spokesman for Village Club Apartments told 7 Action News that the man may have been retaliating for management throwing out things he was illegally storing in a basement storage unit.

The man did not live in the apartments, but he was able to gain access to the basement area where he put his belongings into a unit and put a padlock on it.

Management had the lock removed two weeks ago.

Employees at Blaze Pizza said they've seen the man but have no idea why he would smash out the glass on their back door.

The man remains in custody and could face charges by the end of the week.
