(WXYZ) — A metro Detroit doctor has been sentenced to federal prison in a murder for hire plot that 7 Action News reported last year.

Dr. Daniel Schwarz reportedly wanted to kill two attorneys after having a $60,000 judgment levied against him and made efforts to get two people to work with him: a hitman and a patient.

One of his targets was Oakland County Attorney Michael McColloch.

The FBI was tipped off by his patient and the two targets of the hit were notified and made sure they were safe. It was unclear if a hitman was on his way.

The 57-year-old doctor was arrested last year, cooperated, and pleaded guilty to a drug charge. He was sentenced Friday morning to 16 months in prison.

He talked of using fentanyl in the killings.

He operated pain clinics in Keego Harbor and another in northern Ohio. He will also be on five years supervised release after prison.
