SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) — It’s a heartbreaking story that involves the family of a child battling leukemia. Six-year-old Dominic Nelson’s mother, Samantha Nelson, says her car was stolen last Tuesday from outside their Southfield apartment.

“Why would someone want to take my car,” Samantha said.

Her son relies on the vehicle for transportation to get treatments at the hospital, and participate in the program “Kids Kicking Cancer.”

The family has already seen many struggles including Dominic undergoing a seven-month hospital stay, and bone marrow transplant surgery. Samantha also says she needs to use her car to drive Dominic’s older brother to places as well.

Tonight, while covering the story, Action News received some great news. Suburban Ford of Sterling Heights has pledged to step up to help with transportation after hearing this story. They’re planning to reach out first thing tomorrow to help get them safe and reliable transportation.
