SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ)+ — Prepping for the ice storm, shoppers are flooding stores around Metro Detroit to stock up on essential items.

At Meijer on Telegraph and 12 Mile Rd. in Southfield, we found tons of shoppers buying a lot of water and variety of food.

“I have to make sure there’s enough food for my kids and milk,” one shopper told us.

Another saying, “I’m not planning to go outside at all.”

hopper Monica Kennedy says her plan is to keep 3 days supply of water.

Experts also say non perishable food, kitty litter or sand, salt and shovels are must have items.

“Those are all things we talk about getting before something like this,” says Kennedy.

Shopper Doris Godwin is among those who thought about everything they would need after watching 7 Action News.

“Yes, we have shovels and a snow blower,” says Godwin.

Other top purchases include flashlights, blankets, hats, coats, gloves and batteries.

“Safety is what you look at first. To make sure that your home is safe,” says Kennedy.

Some of those we talked to plan on making a couple trips to the store, before the freezing rain begins.
