Top names in the Michigan Democratic Party are uniting together just one day after the primary.

“I always have a hard time with primaries because we compete against people we love, but we still need to come together after,” says Congresswoman Debbie Dingell from the 12th District.

Today, big names including U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Democratic Gubernatorial nominee Gretchen Whitmer, Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence and Candidate for Congress Andy Levin all came together downtown.

During an event lasting several hours downtown, several candidates spoke out to say they will advocate for the best interests of the people. Democrats say that defeating Republican candidates backed by the president will require more than anti-Trump rhetoric.

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed who lost in the primary was among those also attended the unity event. The Democratic candidates are planning a lot more rallies and public events together, as they work to pull off a blue wave.
