Runaway teen girl from St. Clair County found in Detroit, suspect may face sexual assault charge

KIMBALL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office said they have located a missing 14-year-old girl who they say ran away from her grandmother's home with a man over the weekend. Deputies say she was found at a home in Detroit with a 21-year-old man.

According to the office, the 14-year-old went missing from her grandmother's home in Kimball Township, where she was visiting.

Police were able to make contact with her, but she wouldn't tell deputies where she went. After investigation, they found she she had left the home with a 21-year-old Detroit man.

Several agencies including Homeland Security, Almont police, Detroit police and Redford Township police helped continue the investigation.

On Monday, Homeland Security Investigations conducted surveillance at a home on Fenton St. in Detroit where the suspect residents. While they were conducting the surveillance, Laura left the house and walked to a nearby pharmacy in Redford Township and called her mom.

“We are thankful to all of our law enforcement partners who assisted in getting this girl back where she belongs,” said Sheriff Donnellon. “While she is back home and the suspect is in custody, this investigation is ongoing and may involve multiple jurisdictions.”

Redford Township police and Homeland Security went into the pharmacy and located Laura and took her back home.

Detroit police then arrested the suspect and took him to the Wayne County Jail on several charges, including possible charges of criminal sexual conduct.
