In television and media, we take pride in our local communities and hope the issues and topics we cover truly help make them better places to live, work and raise families.  And for that to work, it’s so important that we make an intentional effort to truly listen and learn what matters to you and where you live.

Nearly a decade ago WXYZ created the Detroit 2020 project as a vision for our cities in the future. We set out to unify, inspire and take action… and vision is still strong today. That’s why we’re kicking off a series of Town Hall meetings.  Going into the communities we serve.  With the goal to simply listen and learn from you, we want to hear your vision for the future and how our platforms here at WXYZ can help us all get there.

Our first stop is in Macomb County on Monday, April 24th, we’re coming to the Wyndham Gardens in Sterling Heights at 7:00 p.m. to hear what’s on your mind. We invite you to come out and take part in our Detroit 2020 Town Hall meeting.  No high powered panel of elected leaders; just you and us.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will start promptly at 7 p.m. - Portions of the town hall will be broadcast live on Channel 7 and on Facebook, so if you are in attendance please know, you will be on television.

Macomb is the fastest growing county in Southeast Michigan.  According to the most recent U.S. Census, nearly 855,000 people live in Macomb.

It’s a hubbub of activity and has been the subject of countless news stories, some even drawing national attention.  From transportation to infrastructure, from the Great Lakes to jobs, it is quickly becoming a key decision maker for this region.  That’s why we want to hear your voice!  What’s important to you?  What are you proud of and what deeply concerns you?  What, in your opinion, would help move Macomb, this region and state forward?

It’s part of our long-term commitment to unify, inspire and take action for you!  We hope you join us.

I’m Mike Murri, Vice President & General Manager

Broadcast: April 20-23, 2017
