WXYZ Editorial: Register now for 11th annual ARISE Detroit Neighborhoods Day

ARISE Detroit Neighborhoods Day faithfully rolls around each summer like clockwork!  Saturday, August 5th will mark the 11th year for this very important, citizens-driven, initiative.

The soul of Detroit, and practically any city or town, is in its neighborhoods. Think how common it is to hear people say with pride that they’re from the west side, or east side, or a particular community subdivision clearly identified by its name.  Wherever it is, it’s your home and place that should foster pride.

Luther Keith, and the organization he founded, has consistently done an amazing job. Propelled by strong leadership and advocacy, Arise Detroit has skillfully tapped into the city’s block clubs, churches, and business groups to help clean-up and revive Detroit’s neighborhoods.  Long before national headlines called Detroit “America’s Comeback City,” Arise Detroit was involved.  Their mission started with one corporate sponsor and has now mushroomed into numerous community partners.

If you’re excited about what’s happening in Detroit neighborhoods – old and new – take action and be a part of the change in some areas and what many residents have been doing every day, for years!  There’s still plenty of time for volunteers to register for the clean-up and beautification projects, festivals and education events. We’ve posted the contact information on our WXYZ.com website.

ARISE is more than just a word.  It stands for “Activating Resources and Inspiring Service and Empowerment.”  Join the cause and see how you can help Michigan’s largest city keep moving forward in a positive way.  Our city, our region, our state, we’re all in it together!
