The countdown to the green flag is underway!   Next weekend, world-class motor sports racing takes center stage in the Automotive Capital’s renewed downtown.

The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear generates tens of millions of dollars each year for our local economy.  It’s also responsible for several million in Belle Isle improvements and projects an exciting and positive image of Detroit to a nationally-televised audience.  We are proud to be the official broadcast partner supporting the race.

Every year, Roger Penske, Bud Denker and their teams make improvements to the track, the viewing areas, the chalets and the live music attractions.   Set up for the big races even began a week later out of respect for those who use the island all year long for recreation.

The Grand Prix is much more than fast cars revving their engines and speeding around a 2.3-mile course.  It’s an opportunity for the event volunteers and metro Detroiters to be great ambassadors to the thousands of tourists visiting the city, many for the very first time.  Introduce them to the new retail, housing and sporting attractions that are driving our much talked about future.

If you haven’t explored the “D” lately, use the Grand Prix to rediscover the excitement of racing, the beauty of Belle Isle and make sure your see the spectacular James Scott Memorial Fountain on the island. It’s also a great time to try out one of the many new innovative restaurants in the city.

The Grand Prix is a Detroit happening!  Let’s use it to truly showcase our Motor City “comeback” spirit.  And remember, you can catch all the action right here on Channel 7, your official Grand Prix station.
