ORION TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — A 29-year-old Pontiac resident will be formally charged Wednesday in the murder of his mother and stabbing of his uncle in Orion Township.

Garrett Lee Roberts was arraigned Wednesday on charges of premeditated first-degree murder and assault with intent to commit murder, and was denied bond.

Delora Margaret Roberts, 59, was allegedly strangled and stabbed to death by her son. Police arrived at a home in 4500 block of Rohr Road Monday. The suspect's uncle reported that he had been stabbed.

While at the hospital, the 60-year-old Orion Township resident told police that he was awakened by the sound of his nephew attacking the deceased victim. When he went to the living room, he saw Garrett strangling his mother Delora with both hands.

When the uncle confronted Garrett, he said he was stabbed in the left shoulder multiple times.

The uncle told police he was able to take the knife away from Garrett and run to a neighbor's home to call 911. While at the neighbor's home he could hear Delora screaming.

Five minutes later, the uncle says he saw Garrett walking south on Rohr Road covered in blood and crying.

Garrett was later taken into custody by police. Delora was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police say Garrett has a criminal history, which includes felony invasion of privacy, felony sex offense, felony obstructing police, felony malicious destruction of property and possession of a controlled substance.
