FRASER, Mich. (WXYZ) — Witnesses say they heard a lot of physical fighting between a couple going on for days inside room number 6, at the Starlite Motel on Groesbeck in Fraser. They say also feared for the safety of a baby they had seen inside.

A motel manager tells 7 Action News it was late Tuesday night when a guest woke him up by frantically ringing a front door bell. Moments later, he saw a chaotic situation in the room with a 2-month-old baby boy not breathing.

“I could see both the mother and father had been drinking that night,” he says. The child was later pronounced dead.

A housekeeper who asks not to be identified also says she witnessed problems for weeks.

“They were always fighting and had issues with drugs that date back for months. They had stopped with drugs after the baby came, but continued to drink and fight,” she says.

Fraser Police confirm they are investigating the baby’s death and are awaiting autopsy results. The mother and father are both in their late 30s to early 40s. They remain in police custody.

So far, there has been no word on charges.
