8 hospitalized following Detroit apartment fire

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Eight people were sent to the hospital after a Sunday evening fire on Detroit's east side.

The fire started around 5 p.m. on the seventh floor of the 16-story Parkview Apartments building in the 1400 block of Chene, according to Dave Fornell of the Detroit Fire Department.

Three of the eight victims were transported to the hospital in critical condition. One of those victims in critical condition is suffering second- and third-degree burns. The other two victims in critical condition are suffering from smoke inhalation.

The other five victims were transported with minor smoke inhalation.

The three victims in critical condition were on the seventh floor at the time of the fire, Fornell said.

The fire was contained within 30 minutes.

At this time, it is unknown how the fire started.
