DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit Police are investigating the report of a carjacking on Archdale near Schoolcraft on the city's west side Friday morning.

The alleged crime led to a police chase involving multiple jurisdictions.

The alleged victim is a 19-year-old man who works for a dog poop scooping company, and he told his boss that two men pulled him out of the company's white pickup truck as he was getting ready to start his route servicing the properties of pet owners.

But a man at the house where the alleged carjacking took place told 7 Action News that there was no carjacking.

The man, who identified himself as the teen's stepfather, said the keys were in the vehicle because the teen left the engine running to warm it up. And he discovered it had been stolen when he went back outside.

There is a GPS tracker on the stolen vehicle, and Detroit Police, believing they were after a carjacking suspect, located the vehicle and the chase began.

The fleeing suspect sped north on I-75 into Hazel Park where he clipped an SUV, then struck an 18-wheeler and lost control.

The suspect bailed out of the wrecked pickup truck and began to try to get away on foot.

Chopper 7 was flying over the chase and continued to track the suspect who was jumping over fences, trying to hide in between houses.

But he was either too tired to continue on foot or realized that he couldn't hide with a news chopper following him.

He eventually slowed down, put his hands in the air and police placed him under arrest.

Detroit Police are continuing to investigate.
