A Detroit teen saved man's best friend on his way to school.

Now, that canine is receiving badly needed medical care.

Fifteen-year-old Eugene Drain was on his way to school when he spotted the dog in trouble, then he took action to save its life.

Drain says he's always been a dog lover and this morning at about 6:30 am he spotted a young female pit bull in trouble.

The kind hearted stray canine was visibly injured and walking alone in the area of West Warren and the Southfield Freeway.

Eugene took the dog to neighbor Linnie Ryan, who's been rescuing pit bulls for nearly 20 years. She contacted the group Detroit Pit Crew, who quickly came and took the dog to a veterinary clinic in Centerline.

She'll be cared for there and then placed into a good home.

Both Eugene and Linnie agree each animal is precious and deserves a safe and loving home.

As a dog owner himself, Eugene says he knew he had to get involved. He's certainly a got a lot of heart, and is great kid.
