People are downtown at Campus Martius for a special screening of the film 12th and Clairmount, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Detroit riots.
The screening gives people a chance to see the powerful story of the 1967 riots and rebellion. The event brings our history back to the heart of downtown.
The Detroit Free Press documentary was produced in collaboration with WXYZ and Bridge Magazine. It features WXYZ archive footage along with home movies and explores economic and racial tensions that led to the most violent uprising in Detroit’s history.
The 5-day rebellion shares remarkable stories that some are too young to remember and others have sworn to never forget.
The Downtown Detroit Partnership is also partnering with WXYZ to make the viewing possible.
Our own anchor Carolyn Clifford was on hand welcoming the crowd.
We’ve also posted lots of amazing videos on WXYZ.com.
