Family, friends of DJ Slick B raise money to bring Crime Stoppers reward to $10K to find his killer

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Byron Gilbert, 28, was known as DJ Slick B and he was known for volunteering his time to help worthy causes around the city of Detroit.

Now, Byron's family is desperate for help to find the people responsible for his murder on Friday, February 7, 2020.

At 7:45 pm, Byron was walking to his truck that was parked on West McNichols near Ilene. He opened the door and two people, who had been hiding inside, opened fire.

Detroit Police said it's unclear how the two shooter were able to get inside Byron's vehicle that had been locked.

After fatally shooting Byron and wounding a man who was helping him take his equipment to his truck, the killers got into a black SUV that was parked on Ilene. They fled the area and the license plate on their vehicle had been covered up.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest in the murder of Byron Gilbert.

Family and friends raised $7,500 of that reward with special thanks to Three Thirteen Store, Shoe Docto, Sweet Soul Bistro, Tiva Productions, and 313 Mell Promotions.

All tipsters will remain 100% anonymous. Rewards are paid in cash when tips lead to an arrest. Crime Stoppers does not wait for convictions to pay out.
