A deadly joyride is now under investigation by police in Detroit.

Police are adamant tonight that alcohol and high speeds cost someone their life. They say the bottom line is this could have been avoided.

The Chevy Impala sat on its side at the intersection of Linnhurst and Hayes on the city’s east side.

Police say a deadly crash happened when an intoxicated woman behind the wheel turned a corner at a high rate of speed and suddenly lost control hitting a light pole.

Just after 7:00 p.m. a total of 3 people in the single car accident were all rushed to the hospital.

The woman driving and her small child survived with temporary serious injuries.

An uncle who was a passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say this evening's stormy weather was not a factor in the crash.
