Rideshare passenger robbed after crash on Lodge Freeway in Detroit

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police are searching for the armed robbers who boldly opened fire on a ride sharing vehicle along the Lodge Freeway.

Police and witnesses describe a very scary scene playing out along the Lodge. An armed robbery, with a ride sharing vehicle pinned in and passengers fired upon.

Detroit police confirm two people are behind a violent crime that left a man and woman fearing for their lives at about 6 a.m.

The victims were passengers in a ride sharing Toyota being driven down the freeway.

Police say armed robbers in a Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger pinned the targeted vehicle in near I-75, one gunman shooting into the hood, another approaching from behind and demanding valuables at gunpoint.

Witnesses also tell us the highway was blocked off soon after as Michigan State Police came to assist.

Police confirm no one hurt.

The armed robbers managed to get away, heading northbound, immediately after ripping off their victims.
