DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit Police Chief James Craig identifies the victim in a late-night domestic shooting in Garden City as 34-year-old Sgt. Elaine Williams.

Chief Craig says she was a 14-year veteran and a “rising star” in the department.

Garden City Police will only say the shooting happened inside her home on Belton Street. A second person was also shot in front of the house.

However, family members of Sgt. Williams tell 7 Action News she told them on Saturday she had enough of her boyfriend’s drinking and was going to throw him out. They also say police told them she was shot in the head and her boyfriend faked his own shooting in front of the house.

His condition has not been released. Garden City Police are not confirming these details.

Chief Craig says Sgt. Williams had two sons ages 14 and 4. Her funeral plans have not been made.

The Chief says DPD will be there to help honor her and support her family because of her outstanding service to the department.
