It was an emotional goodbye as several hundred people came out to pay tribute to a fallen hero - Wayne State police officer Collin Rose.

The candlelight vigil was held on the campus of Wayne State University.

Students describe fallen police officer Collin Rose as nothing short of a hero.

His own grandfather, Clifford Rose, recalled Collin at just 8-years-old - wanting to be a policeman.

A crowd of several hundred lit candles and prayed in the center of campus this evening.

Therapy dogs also consoled those grieving this incredible loss.

The vigil included comments from both the university president and police chief, who both announced Collin was being awarded a medal of valor, being posthumously promoted to sergeant and also would have a $25,000 scholarship created in his name.

Officer Rose was shot and killed in the line of duty while attempting to arrest a suspect just one week ago.

Despite the tragedy, its clear his spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched.
