DETROIT (WXYZ) — Despite a recent spike in crime, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said the numbers of murders, non-fatal shootings and even robberies are still down.

From around 11 p.m. Thursday night to just before 2 a.m. Friday, seven people were shot in Detroit in five different shootings that are all unrelated.

One shooting on Laing near Grayton took the life of an 18-year-old boy planning on going to prom Friday night.

Detroit Police have made an arrest in one of the shootings.
