This year's flower season is upon us and here at Eastern Market focus are geared up to make the most of the annual Detroit Flower Day.
The tradition features Metro Detroit Flower Growers Association vendors from all over the Midwest and will have include festivities for all ages. Some, like Hester Shoats, wake up extra early for the flowers.

"5 o'clock in the morning," Hester said, on what time she woke up for the festitivies. "This is my second hurrah."

"First year was a disaster, so we went to this," said Andrea Kiitchen.
"So this is out of necessity or just efficiency?" I followed up with.
"Both," she replied.
Speaking of efficiency, Ray Cronin had a pro tip, with the contraption below holding more than a dozen plants.

"Holds 15 flats, 4 hanging plants and It's just one trip in one trip out," Ray said.
I asked Ray: What would you prefer? Carry the load or plan on how to plant the flowers?
"Carry the load. OK, yeah, it's easy. Move the mulch, carry the bags. I'll do the shovel work," Ray said.
Hester has a very spring-like theme for this year, while also not worrying about costs, like a few other attendees.
"My theme this year is yellow," she said. "Oh, I don't budget, I don't."

"I usually like 300 dollars and I sorry to say I spend it all usually," Kriss said.
"I don't have a budget, so that's that's the hard part. No budget," Ray said.
"We're over it. It's if we like it we spend it," Andrea said.
Another pro tip for flower season:

"Don't plant too early," Debbie said.
"They say that if you plant before Memorial Day, you could lose them if we have a frost," Kriss said.
"And make sure you water them," Debbie replied.
"I don't know a lot about flowering, so I just. Ask people and talk and you know the community is great," Hester said.

"Depends on what you want to buy, I think people panic buy sometimes," said Chad McPherson.
"So you've been a grower for 24 years. What's an average life of a flower?" I asked him.
"All annuals should last all summer long till fall," Chad said.
Now the annual Flower Day wrapped up Sunday. But if you missed it then don't worry. There are still two Flower Tuesdays: May 20th and 27th.
