Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon confirms a defendent choked a female deputy during a scuffle today at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice.

The incident happened at about 12:30 this afternoon, and the man was subsequently tazered by other  deputies.

The defendent, 21-year-old Michael Sykes is already charged as a suspected serial rapist.

He also faces charges for armed robbery, weapons charges and assaulting an officer.

"We are very fortunate the officer wasn't seriously hurt," says Napoleon.
