WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) — Surveillance video has led to criminal charges being pursued by police in a high profile “dine & dash” case involving a Detroit police officer.

Sagano Japanese Steakhouse owner Yukio Oki says its the first time a large tab hasn’t been paid by a group of 10 or more since he opened his doors off Dequindre.

But police say the group seen on surveillance video did just that, racking up a recent $500 bill, asking to have it split several ways, and deciding to leave one after another without paying.

Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer says even more alarming is the fact a member of the group, a Detroit police officer, was among those who left so rudely.

But, since then, Dwyer says the female officer returned to pay the large tab, claiming she assumed her part was covered by another guest for mother’s day.

The officer with DPD is now being investigated by their Internal Affairs and is no longer carrying a gun as part of restricted duty, according to a statement.

Sources say she’ll be arraigned for a 90 day misdemeanor of defrauding the owner within a day or two, along with others.

Oki says in the meantime no more hard feelings considering the career of an officer is now at stake.

Dwyer says it unlikely the officer will actually serve any time behind bars, but he wants to send a strong message that dine and dash incidents won’t be tolerated in Warren.
