A local church and it's members are stepping up to help victims of a hurricane still struggling in Puerto Rico.

Leaders of Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Ferndale tell us they plan to leave Tuesday for San Juan, with bags filled with emergency supplies. They'll be donating solar powered flashlights, mosquito netting, gift cards, drinking water tablets and other goods.

The members of the church say they've been working on coming up with a way to show victims they haven't been forgotten.

Deacon Mike Cadotte says, "We are both nervous and excited to make a difference and offer as much help as we can."

Volunteers plan to personally deliver the items to some remote areas of Puerto Rico, as well as stocking up on more water. Their goal is to make several trips of this kind.

"We want to be there for them and give them the kind of support they are counting on right now," says Cadotte.

Anyone wishing to make donations for future trips, can send by mail or drop them off. The address is Christ The Good Shepherd. 22331 Woodward, Ferndale, MI 48220.
