People living in a Royal Oak neighborhood are on alert after an armed robbery on a normally quiet street.

A couple that was robbed was about to head out of town to watch the eclipse. Instead, all they saw was a gun in their face."

Royal Oak police issued the alert Monday, after someone robbed a couple at gunpoint Sunday morning on the 600 block of S. Edgeworth.

The news spread quickly through Facebook and neighbors who were sending text messages.

Police say the armed robber confronted his victims in their own driveway, as they loaded luggage into their vehicle.

Detectives say the suspect got into a waiting silver 4 door Chevy Malibu or Impala and took off with a wallet, keys, phones and jewelry.

Police say the suspect is African American in his 20s, clean shaven wearing a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants.

The suspect and a getaway driver were last seen heading towards I-75.
