Detroit gas station clerk sentenced to 35 years in prison in fatal customer shooting

DETROIT (WXYZ) — The gas station clerk who fatally shot a customer in Detroit was sentenced Thursday.

A judge sentenced Rami Ali Jaber to 420 months to 600 months in the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Jaber was found guilty of second-degree murder and felony firearm by a jury on Sept. 26, 2019.

The shooting happened Sunday, May 13 at the Citgo gas station on West McNichols.

Police say 34-year-old Derek Roberts approached the counter to make a purchase when an argument broke out between he and Jaber.

Jaber then fired shots at Roberts' chest. Roberts was unarmed.

The victim later died at a local hospital, and Jaber was arrested.
