Detroit's Goodfellows nonprofit is working to bring local families some relief during the holidays.

On tonight's 7 UpFront, Daran Carey, president of Goodfellows, discusses those efforts in regard to fundraising and what still needs to be collected to help those in need.

As of Dec. 21, Goodfellows is 75% toward its goal of $1 million dollars, Carey said.

The organization recently handed out thousands of holiday packages for children.

"It's a tremendous task," Carey said. "We've handed out over 30,000 packages within the last two weeks. The packages include sweatshirts, sweatpants, hats, scarves."

There were also dolls for young girls along with books, crayons and even a dental kit. Going forward, the organization is still looking for donations to reach that $1 million goal.
