A front tracking across Metro Detroit today will generate an increase in showers and storms this afternoon.
Some of the storms could be strong and possibly severe with large hail and high winds the primary threat.
Hail up to 1 inch will be possible and wind gusts topping 50+ mph could be an issue. The large hail and the strongest wind gusts could be enough to prompt severe thunderstorms warning.
Generally, the chance for severe weather is low, but a few strong to severe storms are possible from later this afternoon through the evening drive.
A tornado drill will sound at 1 p.m., and is not connected to the actual storms forecasted.
