9:25 p.m.

Oakland County is reporting their first death from COVID-19, and the fourth overall for the State of Michigan.Click here

4:45 p.m.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is shutting down rumors of a shelter in place in the state or martial law.

"I am not calling for martial law. That is a rumor and it is false. And it's dangerous for people to foment fear and put out bad information," she said.

She added that "we are not there," when asked if a shelter in place could be coming.

4:30 p.m.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer spoke about COVID-19 after the number of confirmed cases reached 549.

3:15 p.m.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said five members of the department and one civilian contractor have tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the chief, there are also 152 members of the department under quarantine. Of that number, 130 were ordered to quarantine by the department, and 22 of those are self-quarantining, meaning their private doctor told them to quarantine.

2:15 p.m.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Michigan has reached 549, according to new numbers released by the state on Friday. That's up 215 from the day before.

Of those numbers, the city of Detroit has 149 cases while Oakland County is at 184 cases.

Three people have died from the virus, two in Detroit and one from Wayne County.

On Thursday, the state announced it was getting test results from commercial and clinical labs who recently began providing COVID-19 testing.

The state health department is currently getting reports from commercial labs LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics, as well as several clinical labs including Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, the Beaumont Hospital Network, Henry Ford Health System and the MDHHS Bureau of Laboratories (BOL).

The breakdown by age is below.

0-19 – 1%
20-29 – 8%
30-39 – 16%
40-49 – 21%
50-59 – 20%
60-69 – 19%
60-69 – 11%
80+ – 5%

51 percent of the cases are men with 49 percent women, according to the state.

1:30 p.m.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Friday she signed an executive order that would impose temporary restrictions on all non-essential medical and dental procedures beginning as soon as possible.

Hospitals, freestanding surgical outpatient facilities, dental facilities and all state-operated outpatient facilities must implement a plan to temporarily postpone all procedures until the state emergency is over.

11:20 a.m.
