(WXYZ) — Michiganders have until Friday at 5 p.m. to request an absentee ballot by mail in Michigan. The Michigan Secretary of State's Office said the application for the ballot must reach your local clerk no later than 5 p.m. on the Friday before the election.

Those who want to vote early in-person can do so if you are already registered up until 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. All you have to do is go to your local clerk's office to request and obtain an absentee ballot. You can then vote the ballot in the office and you cannot leave the office with the ballot.
For those who are registering to vote for the first time or updating your registration address, you can obtain an absentee ballot until 8 p.m. on election day at your local clerk's office. Those in line by 8 p.m. must be allowed to register and vote absentee.
Local clerk's must also have office hours on Saturday and Sunday immediately before the election. The state said they have to have a combination of at least 8 hours in the office between Saturday and Sunday before election day.
The state also said people can request an emergency absentee ballot in the case of personal disablement or a family death or illness which will require the voter to leave the community for the entire time polls are open on Election Day.
Emergency requests for absentee ballots must be made after 5 p.m. Friday and before 4 p.m. Election Day.
"The emergency must have occurred at a time which made it impossible for the voter to apply for an absentee ballot by the statutory deadline for “regular” applications If an “emergency” absent voter ballot is requested, the person making the application may authorize the person delivering the application to pick up and deliver the ballot," the state said.
