DETROIT (WXYZ) — The City of Detroit will open 23 satellite voting centers on Oct. 5.

The centers will offer voters expanded options prior to Election Day; additionally, there will be seven standalone secure ballot drop boxes throughout the city.

City Clerk Janice Winfrey said voters don't have to wait until Election Day to cast their ballot or jeopardize their health to vote.

Winfrey came under fire after the August primary when counting the vote ran into the next day and polling workers failed to show up.

To help, the City of Detroit is closing down non-essential services for two days so city workers can help with elections - and Michigan's Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says her office is providing Detroit with about 6,000 workers.

Detroiters can also register to vote absentee and immediately cast their ballot at all satellite voting centers.
