Rep. Brenda Lawrence wins 4th term in Congress, AP projects

(WXYZ) — Democratic Rep. Brenda Lawrence has won her fourth term in Congress, beating several candidates including Republican Robert Vance Patrick.

Lawrence, from Southfield, is the former mayor and represents the district which includes portions of Wayne and Oakland counties, and parts of Detroit.

The district was previously represented by Gary Peters, who is now a U.S Senator representing Michigan.

During the past congressional term, Lawrence served on the House Appropriations Committee and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
