DETROIT (WXYZ) — Brittney’s “Sweet 16” birthday was celebrated in foster care. The gift she dreams about most is the gift of being adopted.

“My friends describe me as smart, beautiful, kind, always looks out for others,” said Brittney.

Brittney has been waiting to be adopted since April of 2018.

Creating art and making crafts is one of her favorite pastimes. “I like to color, draw,” she explained.

“My favorite subject is math. Right now, we're learning about integers and fractions,” said Brittney.

She wants to go to college and study to either become a nurse who cares for babies or a staff member at a residential facility.

“I want to help people,” she explained.

Put on some of her favorite tunes, and you’ll see her start moving to the beat.

“My favorite kind of music is Cardi B, Michael Jackson, New Edition -- pretty much old school,” she said. “I just like to dance. That's my main thing. Me and my peers and stuff, we always dance in the living room.”

“My three top wishes would be to be with a family, to meet my mom again, and to love others,” Brittney said.

“I want to live with a family that is nice to me, [will] show me what's right and what's wrong. Don't lie to me. Mainly be blunt and tell me what I need to do,” said Brittney.

“Adoption means to me, it means that someone cares about you. And then once you be hurting no more,” she explained.

“Sometimes I'm in my room and I'm sad and I cry because I haven't found anybody yet, but I know that God has somebody there for me. It's just not the right time right now,” she said softly.

And when she is adopted one day?

“I'll be very happy and excited, and it'll be fun,” she smiled.
